@ ... By: Charlesperalo. on 31 Aug 10, 15:51:42 @SocialDissimulation It has everything to do with it,because if Libertarians were in control this never would of happened.
@Charlesperalo ... By: SocialDissimulation. on 31 Aug 10, 03:00:37 @Charlesperalo Because This has -zero- to do with property rights. We get it, you're a disenchanted libertarian. But seriously, this has so little to do with the federal government's decision that it's laughable that you'd even bring it up. Just like the police office has little to do with traffic accidents other than writing the citations. They don't force you to park anywhere, just tell you where you can't. And no, you don't have the right to park anywhere.
@ ... By: Charlesperalo. on 31 Aug 10, 01:42:40 @SocialDissimulation The people chose to drill at the point of purchase. I do blame BP for many things, but your ignoring that with proper property rights this never would of happened and they wouldn't of done anything.
@Charlesperalo ... By: SocialDissimulation. on 31 Aug 10, 00:23:19 @Charlesperalo Their apathy can't be blamed on anyone BUT themselves. Just because you don't care doesn't mean you park your car in the middle of the road then bitch and moan about getting crushed. The government didn't force them to drill at all, this was -all- a choice by BP and they CHOSE to disregard safety standards. I feel -zero- sympathy for them and blame BP for everything. They were wreckless, it's their fault. Bottom line.
@ ... By: Charlesperalo. on 31 Aug 10, 00:20:33 @SocialDissimulation I'm saying the cause was BP,but the government put them in the situation that caused it. They put them there, they got rid of property rights, and they paid for the drilling and paid for things in event of a spill so they didn't care.
@Charlesperalo I'm ... By: SocialDissimulation. on 30 Aug 10, 23:58:32 @Charlesperalo I'm starting to doubt your logicality seeing as you just contradicted yourself by saying it's the government's fault. (In large part) But you said it's BP's responsibility?
That aside, I'm saying it shouldn't have happened for a billion reasons. BP's lack of a failsfafe trumps anything the government could have done. Other than order it to remove failsafes. Why do you think everyone was upset with BP and not the government?
@ ... By: Charlesperalo. on 30 Aug 10, 23:53:49 @SocialDissimulation Live one day without gas and call me. Now the thing is they would of being prepared if we had proper property right respects. It wouldn't of happened if we let them drill where they originally wanted to drill. Now look I have plenty of common sense and your blaming them for something that in large part is governments fault.
@Charlesperalo I ... By: SocialDissimulation. on 30 Aug 10, 23:14:22 @Charlesperalo I have a better reference point, it's called common sense. This accident would have never happened if the correct failsafes were in position and the alarm system was activiated. If they were prepared for catastrophe this would have never happened. If we never used gasoline as a fuel, it would have never happened. The federal government telling them to drill elsewhere is probably the least to blame for this mess.
@ ... By: Charlesperalo. on 30 Aug 10, 22:27:50 @SocialDissimulation I agree with you that BP is to blame, but your tackling drilling while I'm saying that the whole spill wouldn't of happened. Now how is it the federal governments responsibility to deal with Louisiana? Mainly because they did it poorly and told them to drill in a place that was stupid to drill in. Please read Walter Blocks free market environmentalism.
@Charlesperalo ... By: SocialDissimulation. on 30 Aug 10, 04:04:03 @Charlesperalo Distance aside (because it's already to scale to begin with), if a governing body with less auhority grants something, and one with more authority says no way Jose. This doesn't somehow absolve BP. That's just like saying blacks do crime because of white people's actions in the past. It doesn't work, BP screwed up, they have to accept responsibility. They knew what they were doing.
@ ... By: Charlesperalo. on 30 Aug 10, 02:59:25 @SocialDissimulation Well your ignoring basic facts. The first being who decides where you park LA approved where they originally wanted to go and the Fed denied. Now if they were allowed to drill there and there was no cap on finds. Meaning they have to pay for all damages they wouldn't of being so quick and they wouldn't of had really any problems to begin with. Now your basically putting a no parking sign up,but than saying the other parking spot it a mile away from the store.
@Charlesperalo It's ... By: SocialDissimulation. on 30 Aug 10, 02:50:34 @Charlesperalo It's not a false analogy at all. What part of that is false? By all means, refute it if you dare. Asserting the restriction of rights is somehow to blame for all of this is ludicrous. You don't have the right to just drill where you please in the same stroke you can't park in perilous areas. It's a perfect analogy and you know it. Back to your koolaid, now, shoo, shoo.
@ ... By: Charlesperalo. on 30 Aug 10, 02:48:11 @SocialDissimulation The analogy is worthless. Now I'm saying that they did do some bad,but still proper property rights would of prevented it all.
@Charlesperalo I ... By: SocialDissimulation. on 29 Aug 10, 21:39:54 @Charlesperalo I think you misread the analogy, but I'll give you another one. A police officer tells you that you can't park in a certain spot, let's say it's a fire lane...so you decide to go park in the middle of the street. Are you really going to blame the officer when a semi-truck creams your cob?
@ ... By: Charlesperalo. on 29 Aug 10, 21:34:52 @SocialDissimulation Your ignoring basic facts. BP and Louisiana agreed to a spot for drilling. So what happened? The federal government tells them to go further out than ever before and what do you they have a spill. Now with proper property rights BP wouldn't of been so careless.
@Charlesperalo This ... By: SocialDissimulation. on 29 Aug 10, 20:20:18 @Charlesperalo This is like blaming Ted's suicide on Bill for not hiring Ted. It's bad logic. If you seriously think BP had no idea what was going on, then you're just delusional. Although, this is a common thing with most libertarians. They rarely have a clue.

Hes just preaching, poor discussing style.
That Rabbi just flames Hitchens all the time, and tries to present his point of view very emotional to hide that hes not even trying to make good argumentation.
Ah crap I hate that such people make money. (e.g. with his book, while at first he pans hitchens for making money with his book). And wow Atheism is surely no non profit organization as it is no organization/religion/etc. at all.
@renehenckens Yes ... By: nitelite78. on 06 Sep 10, 18:29:10 @renehenckens Yes this is the problem. Hitchens knows his subject so well but just as importantly knows how to debate. He is careful to answer all the questions put to him by Boteach. It seems that Boteach has just spent a lot of time before the debate preparing a long list of Hitchens quotes that he then tries to pick holes in. He is all over the place. But he fails to listen and respond to what Hitchens says. This is what makes him look poor. That and arguing on the side of nonsense of course.
WOW good debate. ... By: wiredboy27. on 06 Sep 10, 09:29:38 WOW good debate. This was a pretty close one. Why does the age of the earth keep increasing, why aren't there loads of bug eyed freaks with weird malformed eyes walking about. I was raised Christian, but I would say that Christianity has so much more gaps and logical inconsistencies within it.
@thequeenlives The ... By: 7nard. on 06 Sep 10, 03:18:49 @thequeenlives The theory of evolution has been under scrutiny for 150 years, and has accumulated so much scientific evidence in its favor. There are already numerous books and peer-reviewed articles that support it, and anyone can look them up. Even if Hitchens had time to discuss the scientific evidence, some people would still not consider it as 'proof'. It would be hard to 'prove' it on the spot, any more than Fermat's Last theorem, or the Holocaust, can be proved within a few minutes.

Carbon taxes are actually a good idea. Carbon emissions are pollution. That's a fact. Shouldn't those that pollute be made to pay? Revenue from those taxes or fees can be used to promote cleaner practices. Will there be abuses? Will there be some that profit more than others? No doubt. That's capitalism. What's needed is an adjustment to the business model that currently, for the most part, excludes indirect costs incurred for GHG pollution. Future generations will pay.

I believe greenhouse gases, the Sun and natural variability (PDO, volcanoes, etc) all play a role in our climate, to me it's just a question of whether the anthropogenic changes can be lived with or not, and for many years, I'm undecided.

@hulkyone No, BOTH ... By: willhunting1995. on 09 Sep 10, 02:39:04 @hulkyone No, BOTH Bush AND Clinton started this recession, and Obama is making it worse, which is why the Democratic party finds itself with record low approval ratings and why they are in serious jeapardy of losing both houses of congress just like they did back in 1994.

By: willhunting1995. on 09 Sep 10, 02:12:35 @hulkyone No the recession actually started in late 2000 BEFORE Clinton left office and it expanded before Bush even passed a single budget. @hulkyone Hulky ... By: willhunting1995. on 09 Sep 10, 02:11:11 @hulkyone Hulky needs to understand history before talking out of his ass again, Clinton and the Democratic party pushed for Freedie and Fannie to expand home ownership to the poor and unemployed in the 1990s who then couldnt' afford to pay back the banks, which then led to the current global economic crisis.!
@hulkyone TRY AGAIN ... By: willhunting1995. on 09 Sep 10, 02:10:00 @hulkyone TRY AGAIN DUMBASS, CLINTON PROMOTED AND PUSHED FOR MORE HOME OWNERSHIP BY THE POOR AND UNEMPLOYED IN THE 1990S. MANY OF THOSE PEOPLE COULD NOT PAY BACK THEIR HOME LOANS WHICH IS WHY THE COUNTRY IS IN A HOUSING CRISIS/RECESSION, DUMBASS!
@yanollores23 ... By: hulkyone. on 09 Sep 10, 01:16:06 @yanollores23 willhunting1995 needs to understand that Clinton had nothing to do with this current recession. Indeed, Bush left us in quite a shithole and I wish Obama would've waited until 2011 to push for universal health care. Obama should've ended Bush's Iraq spending spree, which he did not, and focused on jobs first
@willhunting1995 ... By: hulkyone. on 09 Sep 10, 01:13:20 @willhunting1995 Actually, CLINTON HAD NOTING TO DO WITH THIS CURRENT RECESSION. WHILE UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE IS QUITE NECCESSARY, OBAMA SHOULD WAITED TO PUSH FOR IT IN 2011 AND HE SHOULD'VE FOCUSED ON JOBS FIRST. OBAMA ALSO FLIP-FLOPPED ON THE IRAQ WAR TOO. HE EVEN CONTINUED TO SPEND MONEY ON THE WAR, THOUGH HE CRITICIZED IT DURING THE CAMPAIGN
@willhunting1995 ... By: hulkyone. on 09 Sep 10, 01:11:05 @willhunting1995 You make me laugh. Yes, BUSH CAUSED THE RECESSION OF 2001 WITH HIS EXTREME TAX CUTS AND OBAMA ADDED TO THIS RECESSION BY FOCUSING FIRST ON HEALTH CARE RATHER THAN JOBS. OBAMA'S NOT A SOCIALIST, HE SHOULD HAVE WAITED TO PUSH UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE IN 2011 AND WE WOULD BE OUT OF THIS RECESSION IF NOT FOR: A) OBAMA'S DECISION TO CONTINUE SPENDING ON THE IRAQ WAR IN A SIMILAR WAY BUSH WOULD HAVE; AND B) THE CURRENT NON-FILLIBUSTER PROOF MAJORITY IN THE SENATE BLOCKING FURTHER AID

Is that why Clinton left office with a recession for the country to deal with? Is that why after a year and a half in office, Obama has made the economy WORSE with his socialist economic pollices?! It seems that the American public doesn't agree with Democratic socialist economic policies at all.
@maha77 ... By: hulkyone. on 07 Sep 10, 00:15:01 @maha77 willhunting1995 sure has his head up his ass. @willhunting1995 No ... By: hulkyone. on 07 Sep 10, 00:10:46 @willhunting1995 No, OBAMA FOCUSED FIRST ON HEALTH CARE REFORM WHEN HE SHOULD HAVE FOCUSED MORE ON THE ECONOMY. THE REPUBLICANS IN THE SENATE ARE BLOCKING THE PASSAGE OF THE SMALL BUSINESS LOAN BILL HE IS PROPOSING.

People have to stop being so influenced by the media. The amount of oil lost in BP and the damage it caused was negligible.

McCain wipe that smug little smile off your face. It makes you look like a gremlin
By: Charlesperalo. on 31 Aug 10, 15:51:42
@SocialDissimulation It has everything to do with it,because if Libertarians were in control this never would of happened.
By: SocialDissimulation. on 31 Aug 10, 03:00:37
@Charlesperalo Because This has -zero- to do with property rights.
By: Charlesperalo. on 31 Aug 10, 01:42:40
@SocialDissimulation The people chose to drill at the point of purchase. I do blame BP for many things, but your ignoring that with proper property rights this never would of happened and they wouldn't of done anything.
By: SocialDissimulation. on 31 Aug 10, 00:23:19
@Charlesperalo Their apathy can't be blamed on anyone BUT themselves.
By: Charlesperalo. on 31 Aug 10, 00:20:33
@SocialDissimulation I'm saying the cause was BP,but the government put them in the situation that caused it. They put them there, they got rid of property rights, and they paid for the drilling and paid for things in event of a spill so they didn't care.
By: SocialDissimulation. on 30 Aug 10, 23:58:32
@Charlesperalo I'm starting to doubt your logicality seeing as you just contradicted yourself by saying it's the government's fault. (In large part) But you said it's BP's responsibility? That aside, I'm saying it shouldn't have happened for a billion reasons. BP's lack of a failsfafe trumps anything the government could have done. Other than order it to remove failsafes. Why do you think everyone was upset with BP and not the government?
By: Charlesperalo. on 30 Aug 10, 23:53:49
@SocialDissimulation Live one day without gas and call me. Now the thing is they would of being prepared if we had proper property right respects. It wouldn't of happened if we let them drill where they originally wanted to drill. Now look I have plenty of common sense and your blaming them for something that in large part is governments fault.
By: SocialDissimulation. on 30 Aug 10, 23:14:22
@Charlesperalo I have a better reference point, it's called common sense. This accident would have never happened if the correct failsafes were in position and the alarm system was activiated. If they were prepared for catastrophe this would have never happened. If we never used gasoline as a fuel, it would have never happened. The federal government telling them to drill elsewhere is probably the least to blame for this mess.
By: Charlesperalo. on 30 Aug 10, 22:27:50
@SocialDissimulation I agree with you that BP is to blame, but your tackling drilling while I'm saying that the whole spill wouldn't of happened. Now how is it the federal governments responsibility to deal with Louisiana? Mainly because they did it poorly and told them to drill in a place that was stupid to drill in. Please read Walter Blocks free market environmentalism.
By: SocialDissimulation. on 30 Aug 10, 04:04:03
@Charlesperalo Distance aside (because it's already to scale to begin with), if a governing body with less auhority grants something, and one with more authority says no way Jose. This doesn't somehow absolve BP. That's just like saying blacks do crime because of white people's actions in the past. It doesn't work, BP screwed up, they have to accept responsibility. They knew what they were doing.
By: Charlesperalo. on 30 Aug 10, 02:59:25
@SocialDissimulation Well your ignoring basic facts.
By: SocialDissimulation. on 30 Aug 10, 02:50:34
@Charlesperalo It's not a false analogy at all.
By: Charlesperalo. on 30 Aug 10, 02:48:11
@SocialDissimulation The analogy is worthless. Now I'm saying that they did do some bad,but still proper property rights would of prevented it all.
By: SocialDissimulation. on 29 Aug 10, 21:39:54
@Charlesperalo I think you misread the analogy, but I'll give you another one. A police officer tells you that you can't park in a certain spot, let's say it's a fire lane...so you decide to go park in the middle of the street. Are you really going to blame the officer when a semi-truck creams your cob?
By: Charlesperalo. on 29 Aug 10, 21:34:52
@SocialDissimulation Your ignoring basic facts. BP and Louisiana agreed to a spot for drilling. So what happened? The federal government tells them to go further out than ever before and what do you they have a spill. Now with proper property rights BP wouldn't of been so careless.
By: SocialDissimulation. on 29 Aug 10, 20:20:18
@Charlesperalo This is like blaming Ted's suicide on Bill for not hiring Ted. It's bad logic. If you seriously think BP had no idea what was going on, then you're just delusional. Although, this is a common thing with most libertarians. They rarely have a clue.
